Thompson Unlimited is the City of Thompson’s Economic Development Corporation.

The Vision of Thompson Unlimited is to create a dynamic and diversified future for Thompson. The objectives are intended to create a dynamic business climate by providing support and resources to grow Thompson as a northern center of diverse economic opportunities, and as a community with a well-developed quality of life.  Specific objectives include but not limited to:

•  Labour Training and Recruitment Efforts;
•  Facilitating Expansion & Attraction of new Winter/Cold Weather Testing Opportunities;
•  Downtown Revitalization;
•  Small Business Development, Retention and Expansion;
•  Marketing and Promoting Thompson Unlimited, the City of Thompson and/or Development Opportunities.

Toward achieving our objectives, Thompson Unlimited has developed the Community Incentive Grant Fund.  The intention of this grant fund is to provide funding to projects that meet one or more of our objectives. Presented below are grant guidelines that outline which projects could be supported through this fund, and which projects will not. Also presented is the grant application form. All requests for grant money must be made through a completed application form submitted to the Thompson Unlimited Board of Directors. A meeting and/or a presentation to the
Thompson Unlimited Board of Directors and/or staff may be required.

Thompson Unlimited budgeted a maximum of $15,000 total for this grant fund for all of 2009. Applications deemed to not be eligible will not be funded. Thompson Unlimited appreciates receiving all grant requests, however it is impossible to approve each and every application received. All applications are received and reviewed by the Thompson Unlimited Board on a first-come, first-reviewed basis.  The decisions made by the Board to any/all grant applications are final. Submission of an application is no guarantee of being awarded a grant.

Past applications received and approved for funding by the Board include:

  • Spirit Way Inc., of highway signage and the Spirit Way Guidebook
  • Co-funding of a study to redevelop MacLean Park
  • Phase II – Program, Site and Budget Determinations for a Northern Aboriginal Arts Centre
  • Phase I – Research the current state of wolf tourism in North America and Europe as part of positioning Thompson as the Wolf Capital of Canada
